Using Microsoft Teams? We're here to help!
Do you and your students sign in using Canvas, Schoology, or another learning management system? Learn more about how to sign into our website using the same login you use for Teams.
Here are a few ideas on how to use your magazine subscription in a virtual Teams classroom.
1. Creating Assignments
1. Creating Assignments
All magazine stories and issues can be assigned for students to read digitally in Microsoft Teams. Teachers can also share direct links to our educational videos, slideshows, games, and more.
To create an assignment, first click the share icon next to any of our articles or videos, then select “Copy Link.” Then go to Microsoft Teams and create an assignment. Paste the link you copied from our site into the assignment’s “Instructions” field. Students will launch the website from their assignment link, and login to read the magazine or watch the video you shared. Add points for launching the activity so the student’s work is tracked in Gradebook. Click here for more information.
2. Whole-Group Learning
2. Whole-Group Learning
Teachers can use Teams meetings to stream videos, read the magazine, and review discussion questions or games as a whole-group activity when sharing their screen.
One idea for virtual classrooms: try watching a video together to build background knowledge using a Teams meeting. Then, share a link to the related magazine story as an announcement in your class team chat, so students can read independently but together.
3. Digital Activities
3. Digital Activities
Many magazines now feature PowerPoint files that Teams teachers can share with students to complete and turn in digitally.
When you see “PowerPoint” or “PPT” on our websites, that means those files can be downloaded and shared as an assignment in Microsoft Teams. Create an assignment in Teams and upload the file under “Add resources.” If you select “Students edit their own copy,” each student will be able to type into and edit their own version of your PowerPoint file until your assignment due date.
If you see a Google Slides activity, simply copy to your Google Drive and File → Save as Microsoft PowerPoint. You can then upload the PowerPoint onto Teams and create an assignment as usual.
PDF files can be shared in the same way, but they cannot be filled out digitally by students. If you see one of our older skill-building PDF resources, try copying the text you like and adding it to a PowerPoint or Word document to share with students.
